When it comes to deciding where to partake of cake, bibingka, pizza, ice cream-based desserts and halo-halo among others, many Dabawenyos tend to say, “Let’s go to Merco”.
Merco has become a household name, Since 1946, it has continued to serve a growing city of Davao.
Thanks to it for setting the standard for delicious, tasty and affordable food.
At the helm of running things is Johnny Ferrazzini, president of the Mercantile Corp.of Davao or Merco.
He runs the family-owned business with his son Anton, who is the general manager, and heir apparent.
Dabawenyos have continued to patronize the Ferrazzini’s 35 stores despite the competition, especially with Manila-based companies having established branches in the city.
Johnny is a businessman, yes, but not all things are about business for him.
He loves to compete in 4×4 offroad races, serves in the Rotary Club of South Davao and plays golf.
Every two years, he and his son Anton make sure that the Anselmo M. Ferrazzini Memorial Golf Tournament is organized to raise funds for various charitable organizations, especially, his favorite Maharlika Charity Foundation which since 1973 has helped the poor whose medical needs were addressed by Davao’s best medical and dental specialists, all in volunteer capacity. The golf tournament will hold its 10th edition next year.
For Johnny, to give something back to the community is worth working for.
And whenever he has the time, he finds relaxation in sports. [Moses P. Billacura]
