Five out of seven Team Phoenix elite runners topped the Summit CamSur International Marathon: Race to a Green Philippines recently at the CamSur Watersports Complex (CWC) in Pili, Camarines Sur.
Team Phoenix’s Cynthia Jaro (3:20:17) finished third in the 42K Female – Open category, finishing after fellow Filipina Ailene Tolentino (3:12:29) and first placer Rose Chesire (2:50:26) of Kenya. Jaro brought home P50,000.
Placing second in the 42K Local leg in the male and female categories are Phoenix’s Mendel Lopez (2:34:11) and Monalisa Ambasa (3:15:17). Each of them received P90,000 in cash.
Brian Lupio came first in the 21K Male – Local race with an official time of 1:15:54, only eight seconds earlier than second placer Gerald Sabal (1:16:01) of Manila. Lupio won P20,000.
In the 21K Female – Open category, Mary Joy Tabal (1:24:31) finished second, bringing home a cash prize of P30,000.
More than 21,000 runners raced in the CamSur Marathon, with participants coming from as far as Ethiopia and Kenya for the Open categories.
