The Philippine national women’s football team succumbed to Myanmar, 3-0, to start its campaign in the 2012 ASEAN Football Federation Women’s Championship Thursday at the Thong Nhat Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
The Malditas failed to contain their opponent’s attacking early in the match, yielding a goal at the fifth minute to give Myanmar an early 1-0 lead.
Myanmar, last year’s finalist in the same tournament, hit the back of the net once again at the 38th minute to take a commanding 2-0 edge at halftime.
The Filipinas then gave up another goal at the 88th minute off a penalty kick by Myanmar to further dim their chances of a comeback.
The Malditas will next face 2010 champion and host Vietnam on Saturday and Singapore on Monday to complete their matches in the group stages. They need to finish in the top two of their bracket to advance to the semifinals.
