Pungluang Sor Singyu is in town and eager to make heads turn.
Sor Singyu is set to challenge AJ Banal for the vacant World Boxing Organization (WBO) bantamweight title this Saturday at the SM Mall of Asia Arena and the Thai expressed desire to bring the WBO 118-lb crown back to Bangkok.
Team Sor Singyu arrived at 2 p.m. Tuesday via Philippine Airlines from Bangkok and is now staying at the Sofitel Hotel, according to ALA Boxing executive Dennis Canete.
Sor Singyu gets the chance to size up Banal during a press conference scheduled Thursday at the Midas Hotel with the other fighters seeing action in the MOA show in attendance.
Canete said Sor Singyu was oozing with confidence.
“He is coming to win,” said Canete.
The official weighin will be on Friday also at the Mall of Asia.
Banal is slightly favored to beat the Thai and crown himself as the country’s newest world champion. The reigning Filipino world champions are super-bantamweight Nonito Donaire, flyweight Brian Viloria, and light-flys Donnie Nietes and Johnreil Casimero.
Banal trained exclusively in Cebu City and promises to join the elite list with a smashing win.
