Jr. NBA camp opens Monday

The Jr. NBA Philippines 2013 presented by Alaska will be in town beginning Monday for the Regional Selection Camp at the University of Southeastern Philippines.
The two-day camp is made possible by event partner and local host Phoenix Petroleum Philippines.
 The Jr. NBA’s return to Davao after a record-breaking attendance of 1013 participants in school clinics held last January now enables young players aged 10 to 14 try for the chance of becoming this year’s Jr. NBA All Stars.
Participants will participate in a learn-and-achieve camp that will test their physical and basketball smarts through NBA style skills tests and basketball drills. The two-day selection camp starts at 9 a.m. on April 1 and ends April 2.
 The first day is devoted to skills tests and drills and the selection of the Top 40 performers. The second day will consist of more drills and scrimmages among the Top 40, and as much as 10 players who will represent the region in the National Training Camp in April will be chosen at the end of the day by Jr. NBA coaches led by Coach Sefu Bernard, Director of Basketball Operations, NBA Asia and local Jr. NBA coaches led by PBA Legend Jojo Lastimosa. 
At the camp, young players will undergo skills, aptitude and endurance challenges designed to steep them in basketball fundamentals and the S.T.A.R. (Sportsmanship, Teamwork, Attitude, Respect) values.Besides getting their vitals measured, campers will also encounter shooting skills challenges, dribbling, footwork and passing drills, endurance tests, fitness and agility tests and competitive games.The top campers selected in Davao will join the 6 National Training Camp qualifiers previously selected in Dagupan City on March 16 and 17. More campers will be selected on April 6-7 in Lucena City and April 13-14 in Manila. More National Campers will be culled from the Alaska Power Camp to make up the total 50 participants in the National Training Camp which will be held in Manila on April 26-28.The highlight of Jr. NBA Philippines 2013 presented by Alaska is the selection of this year’s ten Jr. NBA Philippines 2013 All Stars who will be rewarded with an authentic NBA experience later in the year and the chance to play against a counterpart Jr. NBA team abroad.The Coach of the Year award winner will be announced at the National Training Camp. An NBA legend will join the coaching staff of the NTC and lead the post-NTC NBA Cares community outreach.
