Donaire would have served as commentator in Davao

Dethroned WBO superbantamweight champion Nonito Donaire would have come to Davao this Saturday had he won.
This was learned from Dennis Canete, vice president of ALA Promotions—the outfit that promotes Pinoy Pride 19 on April 20 which features Filipino WBO international featherweight champion Rey “Boom-Boom” Bautista against Mexican challenger Jose “Negro” Ramirez.
“We invited him to do the ringside analysis,” Canete told Edge Davao. “Had he won, Donaire will surely give the fans in Davao something to be excited about.”
Canete said Donaire fell to a fighter who had a clear fight plan—hit and run away. “Walang chance si Donaire to execute his own fight strategy because he was so frustrated.”
According to Canete, Rigondeaux is a promoter’s nightmare.
“Kung kami ang promoter, ayaw naming sa style na yan. It will not be good for the fans. Not good for the promotion,” Canete said.
“Rigo is a defensive fighter like Mayweather, but Floyd also mixes up, Rigo runs away. Pangit kaya he was booed by the crowd,” added Canete who also thought Donaire was so pressured from the start.
Donaire lost a unanimous verdict to Rigondeaux who went down in the 10th round but stayed on to earn the nod of the judges. Despite winning the title, the Cuban former Olympic champion did not earn the respect of boxing fans because of his fighting style.
Canete did not give details on who will do the fight’s analysis in the coverage after Donaire was said to be unsure to do the assignment on Saturday. (NJB)
