Sangguniang Panlungsod narrowly escaped with a 74 – 72 squeaker over City Civil Registrars Office’s in their pulsating semifinal round encounter to earn a ticket to the finals in the 76th Araw ng Dabaw – DACHEA Basketball Tournament Category A at the Davao City Recreation Center Alemendras Gym on Friday.
The Vice Mayor’s Office-led team played with more poise down the stretch as they held off a strong CCRO rally in the dying seconds to clinch the first ticket to the finals.
SP, last year’s losing finalist, will take on the winner in the other semifinal match that pit top-seed City Environment and Natural Resources and defending champion and fourth-ranked General Services Office.
Christopher “Bong” Go did almost everything offensively in the first half and the rest of the City Council-based dribblers got the job done in defense down the stretch to seal the win.
The sweet-shooting Go, the executive assistant to Acting Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, finished the game with a scorching 34 points, including ten baskets from behind the arc.
Art Atablanco contributed 15 baskets for SP which bucked the lackluster performance of its frontline Greggy Delica, Dindo Pastor and Marvin Mondigo. (RICO BILIRAN)
