The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) continues to build hope for young persons with disabilities when it conducts its third and final leg of the 2018 “Differently-Abled Sports 4 LIFE” Paragames at the Xavier University–Ateneo de Cagayan, Cagayan de Oro City starting November 7 to 11.
PSC Commissioner and Program-in-charge Arnold Agustin said the agency hopes to motivate, inspire and stimulate the marginalized kids into becoming Regional, Asian and probably World champions someday in the likes of Para-Games swimmer Ernie Gawilan, chess wizard Sander Severino and table tennis wonder Josephine Medina.
“Our para-athletes will play on six different sports such as, athletics, swimming, badminton, table tennis, bocce and goalball,” said DAS4LIFE Assistant Project Director Jan Facundo.
Around 200 differently-abled students from all over the city are set to participate in different games and lots of fun activities serving as grassroots sports development program of the agency, in coordination with the Department of Education Division of Cagayan de Oro.
Also, PSC Commissioner Arnold Agustin will attend the turn-over ceremony of sports equipment to the local government of Cagayan de Oro City with Mayor Oscar Moreno.
Agustin explained that “starting next year, the games will adopt more sporting events from the Paralympics and will provide seminars for coaches and technical officials with the help of various national sports associations as part of preparation for the country’s hosting of the ASEAN Para Games in 2020.
