Philippine Sports Commission Chairman William Ramirez lauded artistic gymnast Carlos Edriel Yulo’s bronze win for bagging the first medal finish for the Philippines in the 48th World Artistic Gymnastics Championships at the Aspire Dome in Doha, Qatar.
The 18-year-old Yulo tallied 14.600 points to win the bronze medal in the men’s floor final last November 2, making him the first Filipino and Southeast Asian athlete to ever capture a podium finish in the tourney.
“We at the PSC are more than happy for the historic achievement Yulo has done for the country,” said Ramirez.
Through Board Resolution No. 1138-2018, the PSC Board granted Yulo and the Gymnastics Association of the Philippines almost P1.2 million financial and airfare assistances for the competition that started last October 19 to November 4.
“Caloy has been a one of our consistent athletes that is why the PSC has been very supportive of his efforts,” the agency chief added.
“He has proven to be a good investment of the people’s money given the achievements he continues to bring home,” Ramirez said in closing.
Russia’s Artur Dalaloyan copped the gold medal in the men’s floor with 14.900 points while Japanese Kenzo Shirai settled for silver with 14.866.
