The Philippine Sports Commission will revisit the island municipality of Simunul in Tawi-Tawi for the second edition of the PSC-Women’s Street Volleyball slated on November 3 to 6.
More than 600 women and girls from 15 barangays are expected to participate in the event to be led by Women in Sports Oversight Commissioner Celia Kiram and Simulun Mayor Nazif Ahmad Bayo Abduraman.
“The people of Simunul are very much into sports, especially volleyball. They play it in every street, down to the beach area,” said Kiram.
“We have excellent players in this region. That is why we are also promoting our grassroots development here and discover future talents that will be soon be part of our national team,” added Kiram, citing on the upset win the Tawi-Tawi Volleyball Team did against the National Team at the 2018 Philippine National Games in Cebu.
The four-day program also coincides with the 608th founding celebration of Islam in the island of Simunul.
“Sports equipment are going to be donated to the local government of Simunul,” concluded the Sulu-native Kiram.
The first edition of the Women Street Volleyball happened on November last year.
The PSC recently embarked on the PSC Children’s Games Sports For Peace Series in Davao with the staging of the Davao City, Lupon, Mati City and Digos City legs.
