Pirates repeat as UFBC champs

Undermanned defending champion Caltex-powered GJaps Pirates retained the Uraya Fortys Ballers Club (UFBC) season 2 championship on Sunday after hacking out an 87-78 win over Sanmig Light in the finals held at the Elenita Heights court in Barangay Catalunan Grande.

Noel Papelera, Japs Sabio and Francis Garcia combined for 62 points to seal back-to-back championship wins in the hoopfest devoted for ballers 40 years old and above.

Papelera finished with a game high 24 points and romp away with the finals MVP award.

Sabio, however, unloaded 20 points including six beyond the arc bombs while Garcia was on the helping end with 18.

“Fulfilling kaayo para sa amoa kay kulang kaayo mi sa tao,” team captain Sabio said, who was named the season MVP averaging 20 points per game.

Sabio shared that it was the teamwork that ushered them for another title conquest.

Completing the lean but mean Pirates are Niño Silveron, Jeffrox Senon, Rudy Coquilla, Raul Constatino, Jeffrey Bucol, and aJonathan Billin.

The competition’s Mythcal Five includes Jucas Tejada, Geoffrey Ayunan, Ronnie Millomeda, Japs Sabio, and Francis garcia. 

The most improve player award went to Ram Pombo, while Bebot Cordova was hailed as the most defensive player of the season.
