Ateneo de Davao University topped the four-team ADDU Men’s Invitational Basketball Tournament over the weekend played at the Arcadia indoor basketball court inside the Arcadia Active Lifestyle Center.
The host Blue Knights topped the tournament backed by the Samahang Basketball ng Pilipinas (SBP) 11 after sweeping all their three matches. Multi-titled University of Mindanao finished first runner-up while the visiting University of Asia and the Pacific Dragons took second runner-up and Rizal Memorial Colleges wound up third runner-up.
The UA&P Dragons, coached by Michael Vincent Lorejo, is based in Ortigas and plays in the Men’s NCAA (MNCAA).
“The goal of the tournament is to bring a new brand of basketball to Davao by inviting non Davao teams,” said ADDU sports coordinator Noli Ayo. “This year it was UA&P.”
Ayo said the next pocket tournament is being lined up for December.
“We are looking at a CESAFI team,” he said referring to the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. basketball league, the Cebu version of the UAAP and NCAA.
The games were held July 5 and 6 at the Martin Hall of the ADDU Jacinto and July 7 at the Arcadia Lifestyle Center. Teams played a single round robin with the team having the best record winning the short tournament.
Ayo thanked SBP 11 regional director Glenn Escandor, SBP 11 executive officer Ronel Leuterio and UA&P’s Lorejo.
