Which league is tougher?
Metro Manila’s University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) or Cebu City’s Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI)?

It’s one of the questions in collegiate basketball that needed answers.
Wait no longer.
The answer will be known when two of the UAAP’s teams with championship pedigree and two of CESAFI’s winningest varsity squads vie for the 2019 Escandor Cup Kadayawan Invitational Basketball Tournament which unfolds this Sunday, August 11, at the Davao City Recreation Center.
Defending Kadayawan champion De La Salle University (DLSU) Green Archers head the four-team cast which will do battle in the North-South battle for supremacy.
Former UAAP champion National University (NU) Bulldogs will be the other squad from the UAAP side which will battle its counterparts from the Cebu hoopdom in perennial champion University of Visayas (UV) Green Lancers and multi-titled Southwestern University (SU) Cobras.
Interestingly, the country’s top two leagues have nothing to do with this historic showdown.
Credit it to the Escandor Cup and the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) Davao regional director Glenn Escandor for orchestrating such an interesting tournament in one of the biggest pocket leagues outside Manila and the Visayas.
The tournament serves as one of the sporting highlights of the 2019 Kadayawan Festival.
