The Escandor Cup/Visayas -Mindanao Regional Championship has been moved to March 1 to 5 and will now be played at the Lamberto Macias Sports and Cultural Center in Dumaguete City.
The new schedule and venue was officially posted on the Philippine Collegiate Champions League (PCCL) social media page on Saturday.
The changes were made after Davao City called off all public gatherings in the city amid the ongoing outbreak of the 2019-nCoV virus. Acting on the development, the PCCL Board decided to postpone the Escandor Cup/Visayas-Mindanao Regional Championship originally scheduled on February 17 to 20
Likewise, the PCCL Board also reset the Final Four on March 7 to 8 to be played in Manila.
“We apologize for the inconvenience especially to our fans in Davao City who are anticipating to watch the top four collegiate teams in our country,” the PCCL statement said.
The Escandor Cup Vis/Min Finals will feature the top two teams from Cesafi in Southwestern University PHINMA, University of the Visayas Green Lancers along with the top three teams in the Mindanao qualifiers in Holy Cross of Davao College, Holy Trinity College of General Santos City Inc., MATS College of Technology, and the champion of the Visayas qualifiers in Asian College-Dumaguete Campus for the remaining slot in the Final Four.
Steneo de Manila has secured the first spot to the Final Four.
“In the light of this measures made by the city government, we will abide by and support the risk-prevention efforts and adhere to the changes in the venue and schedule of the tournament,” said Samahang Basketball ng Pilipinas (SBP) 11 regional director and President Rodrigo Duterte’s sports adviser Glenn Escandor told Edge Davao.
