The Philippines topped the World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) 2023 Asia Oceanic Ultimate & Guts Championships (AOUGC) after toppling mighty Australia in the finals 11-10 last Sunday at the Ayala Alabang Country Club in Muntinlupa.
The fifth and final day of the WFDF 2023 Asia Oceanic Ultimate & Guts Championships (AOUGC) concluded with championship and some placement games for the Open Division, the Women’s Division and the Mixed Division.
The Philippine Ultimate National Team more popularly known as Pilipinas Ultimate competed against the Australia Open Team in the Finals of the Open Division – with Pilipinas Ultimate’s last appearance on that stage all the way back in the 2013 tournament.
In the showdown between the yet unbeaten teams, Pilipinas Ultimate maintained a slim lead against Australia Open throughout the tightly contested game, with Australia Open trimming the deficit to 11–10 in favor of the Philippines late in the second half.
However, clutch plays by Pilipinas Ultimate allowed them to eventually capture the match 15–12, punctuating their tournament sweep with the Gold Medal as Champions in the Open Division.
The 2023 AOUGC tournament is an official event of the World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) and organized by the Philippine Flying Disc Association (PFDA). It was held at the Ayala Alabang Country Club in Muntinlupa City, Philippines and ran from 6 September to 10 September 2023.
