
Mati City, the gem of Davao Oriental will be hosting a big time golf tournament for the very first time this coming April. It will be held in the newly developed Don Rocamora Golf & Country Club at the heart of the city.
All golfers in the region will converge in the eastern coastal city for the Deputy District Grandmaster (DDGM) Golf tournament to be hosted by the Masonic District Region XI from April 11 to 13,2023.
“We are expecting more than 200 golfers who will vie for honors for this event, mostly coming from Davao City, neighboring towns of Davao region and from as far as Cebu, who confirmed their participation’ bared Cha Kato, tournament co chairman on Thursday during the weekly DSA Sports Forum at the SM Ecoland.
It will be an individual stroke play format using the System 36 on two shotgun starts at 6am and 11am during the three-day tournament. Players will play only 18-holes on their selected day during the three-day tournament.
Players will be classified into five (5) categories Class A, B, C, Seniors and Ladies with trophies to awarded to the Gross/Net champions and runners up per category with additional prize for the Overall Gross and net Champions.
Registration is pegged at 3,500 pesos that includes the green fee, golf cart sharing, packed lunch, give away, raffle ticket and buffet dinner during the awarding fellowship to be held on April 13,2023 at the golf clubhouse.
‘Proceeds of this tournament will go to the District community and Environmental projects of the Freemasonry and for the uplifting, healing and providing critical care of children with Club Foot and Cleft Lip/ Cleft Palate and in partnership with the Agila Shriners Mt. Hamiguitan (Davao Oriental) Chapter, Masters of Green Jacket Golf Club, Inc., Dr. Resuldo D. Malintad Mati City Chapter No. 117 Order of DeMolay, Job’s Daughters International Bethel Tagum UD, Sports Foundation of St. Andrew (SFOSA)” said Tournament director Popoy Trocio on phone interview.
A golf cart is featured as Hole in price for the lucky golfer who will hit the jackpot apart from various merchandise, appliances to be awarded during the raffles on the fellowship night.
“We are requesting the support of all golfers for this tournament, the first of its kind in Mati, not only for its charitable cause but also to promote tourism. Mati and Davao Oriental in general have so much to offer and we hope through golf we could promote our city as one of viable destination for tourist in the region” Cha Kato concluded.
