Cabreros, Fusilero clinched October top medal honors

The winners circle in the October Monthly Medal of Apo Golf.

As the rest of Luzon was devastated last week by the typhoon Kristine, Apo Golf as the rest of Davao is fortunate enough to be blessed with a good weather, its fairways dry and intact with its greens remaining as it is, pristine.

As 125 golfers trooped to the fairways to participate in the best Monthly medal tournament in town in terms of prizes and challenges, two golfers stood out head and shoulders above the rest.

Jonathan” Pogs” Cabreros fired a three over par 75 to earn the Lowest Gross title with the veteran Leo Fusilero’s 66 settling in as the Overall Net champion for the four-day tournament that ended on Sunday October 27,2024.

“On behalf of the Apo Golf and Country management, I am extending my appreciation to all of you my fellow golfers for your continued support to our Monthly tournament. As an added bonus, starting next month, we’ll do our best to come up with a more attractive and interesting trophies as our way of giving back for your patronage” said Director Regino Dennis Capa, Co Chairman of the Sports and Games Committee on his welcome remarks at the fellowship and awards night on Sunday.

Miguel Dizon an 8 handicapper fired a 6 over par 78 to bag the Class A Gross diadem over Vincent Gumapac (80) who settled for the runner up honors. Ega Cordero (71) and Director Mark Oropeza (73) stepped in at the Class A winner’s podium as Net Champion and Runner up respectively.

Kenichi Murahashi (81) and Jun Yap (69) grabbed the Gross and Net Champ diadem in Class B over Edwin Cayamanda (83) and Jerson Tico (70) who settled for the runner up honors in the division.

Bam Joaquin’s 94 is enough to claim the Class C Gross plum over Newa Kentaro (99) while Randy Policarpio (74) took his share of the pot by claiming the Division’s Net Champion title over Raul Lopez (77) who settled as runner up.

Edge Davao Columnist Engr Chito Malabanan settled as Net Runner in the Seniors division won by Danny Gotera (71). Caloy Leyba (87) and Larry Miculob (88) took the Gross Champion and runner up honors for the division.

Atty Ed Batacan (87) and Felix Enofre got the honors as Gross and Net champion of the inaugural division, the Super Seniors for golfer 66 years old and above.
