Sweet-shooting Rain Or Shine guard Francis Escandor did what he has not shown in the PBA.

He rained threes and he shone on both ends of the floor.

The 6-foot-2 Escandor waxed hot with 20 points to lead the Davao Agilas’ over the upset-conscious Kidapawan Doctors Hospital, 80-76, in the finals of the 88th Araw ng Dabaw Invitational Basketball Tournament held at the Davao City Recreation Center over the weekend.

Back on the same floor where he started his basketball career, Escandor dropped threes from the corners of the good old Almendras Gym, the same court where he played from his SBP and Passerelle years to high school basketball as a member of the Ateneo de Davao Blue Knights squad.

Escandor also pulled dpwn seven rebounds and pipped once in an all-around effort to give the Agilas their first taste of the Araw ng Davao championship, one of the two major basketball tournaments in Davao City every year under the Samahang Basketball ng Pilipinas program headed by his father Glenn Escandor.

Escandor’s presence in the Davao Agilas roster provided much-needed firepower to the team that also included former MPBL player Dave Arana and veteran journeyman Marvin Hayes.

The tournament, also serving as a tribute to former President Rodrigo Duterte and a roaring appeal for his return to the country, was supported by The Royal Mandaya Hotel and Genesis 88.

The SBP president along with Duterte’s grandson Rigo were at the sidelines during the entire match and awarded the trophies and prizes during the awarding ceremonies.
