Alex Eala, the newest face of Philippine tennis, will be making her Grand Slam debut at the 2025 French Open next month.
This was after Eala was officially added to the main entry list for women’s singles of Roland Garros.
This will be the 19-year-old tennis star’s first appearance at a Grand Slam as a professional.
Fresh from her Cinderella run at the 2025 Miami Open, Eala now finds herself ranked 72nd by the WTA, although she’s the 74th seed in the French Open.
Also included in the list are second seed and four-time French Open champion Iga Swiatek of Poland, whom Eala defeated in Miami.
Aryna Sabalenka, the winner of the Florida tilt and currently the top-ranked women’s tennis player, enters the clay court tournament as the No. 1 seed.
Eala is currently competing at the Oeiras Ladies Open in Portugal, where she took down Anouk Koevermans of the Netherlands on Tuesday. Playing as the tournament top seed, Eala saw her run at the Oeiras Ladies Open come to an end after a Round of 16 loss to Hungary’s Panna Udvardy in straight sets, 7-6, 6-4.
Udvardy got the early break in the first set and led 40 -0 in the third game but Eala came back pounding and closed in at 1-2. Udvardy’s serve won her key points and led 3-1.
Eala came back with her ultra aggressive game, with winners of the forehand and backhand side to level 3-3.
Udvardy found her pace on serve to take a 4-3 lead, but Eala stayed composed and held her own, highlighted by a backhand pass winner to push the set into a tiebreak at 6-6.
