A field of around 200 golf enthusiasts is set to participate in the third edition of the Ateneo de Davao University Blue Knights Association (ABKA) Cup Golf Tournament. The event will take place on April 26, 2025, at the Apo Golf and Country Club in Bago Oshiro, Davao City.
Tournament Director Ken Libron announced the details on Thursday at the weekly Davao Sportswriter’s Association (DSA) Sports Forum in SM Ecoland. He shared key information about the much-anticipated event.
The competition will follow the PAL Points or Molave System with individual stroke play. The latest WHS Handicap as of April 15, 2025, will be used as reference. The tournament will feature two shotgun starts, with the first at 6 AM and the second at 11 AM.
Golfers will be classified into five categories to maximize participation. Class A will include players with a handicap of 0-9, Class B will have a handicap of 10-18, and Class C will cover handicaps from 19-27. Ladies and Seniors divisions will also be available. Each category will have four winners, including Gross and Net Champions as well as Runners-Up. Trophies will be awarded to the Overall Gross and Net Champions.
A team competition exclusively for Ateneo Alumni golfers will also take place. Teams will consist of five players, and the team with the highest cumulative points will be crowned champions. Individual scores from this division will still be considered in the open individual category.
The registration fee is set at PHP 3,500. This amount covers green fees, mulligans, a dinner buffet, and a raffle ticket. Each golfer will also receive a giveaway upon registration.
The tournament proceeds will support the ABKA Scholarship Project. Funds will also be allocated for an Indigenous People’s community in Salumay, Marilog District.
Exciting prizes await golfers who hit a Hole-in-One on any of the Par 3 holes. Rewards include a coffee maker machine, PHP 20,000 cash, and major appliances. There will be two pin placements on all Par 3 holes to increase the chances of a successful Hole-in-One.
After the competition, golfers will gather for dinner and the raffle draw at the Apo Golf and Country Club clubhouse. This will be an opportunity to celebrate the day’s achievements and camaraderie.
