Jaja Santiago, Maddie Madayag to depart Japan SV.League Clubs at Season’s end

Maddie Madayag of the Kurobe Aqua Fairies, marked her first international stint in Japan, embracing the opportunity despite her team’s 11th-place finish in the preliminary round with a 15-29 record.

Filipino volleyball stars Maddie Madayag and Jaja Santiago—now known as Sachi Minowa— are set to bid farewell to their respective Japan SV.League teams at the close of the 2024-25 season.

For Madayag, her journey with the Kurobe Aqua Fairies has reached its final chapter. The 27-year-old Dabawenya middle blocker, formerly an Ateneo Blue Eagle, marked her first international stint in Japan, embracing the opportunity despite her team’s 11th-place finish in the preliminary round with a 15-29 record.

Reflecting on her time with Kurobe, Madayag expressed gratitude for the experience, acknowledging the privilege of donning a different shade of blue—one that echoed her collegiate roots.

“And that’s a wrap! Thank you, @kurobeaquafairies, for the chance to live out one of my dreams,” Madayag shared.
“Although a different shade, it’s been a pleasure donning a blue jersey once again. Peace out, #19.”

Following her undrafted status in the 2025 Korean Volleyball League (KOVO) Asian Quota Draft, Madayag’s next move remains uncertain—whether it’s a return to the PVL or another international opportunity.

Minowa’s Last ‘Marvelous’ Dance
Meanwhile, nearly two years after joining JT Marvelous, now Osaka Marvelous, Minowa is set to conclude her tenure with the Japanese powerhouse club at the end of their playoff run.

The 29-year-old power hitter, wife of Akari head coach Taka Minowa, remains focused on finishing strong, determined to chase one last shot at gold.

“As I finish my last season with Osaka Marvelous, I want to thank you all for your amazing support over the past two years. Saying goodbye will be hard because this team has taught me so much and given me many happy moments,” she said.

“Let’s make this final season special, and please keep supporting us until the end!”

A dominant force at the net, Minowa was instrumental in Osaka Marvelous’ silver-winning campaign last season, narrowly missing out on the championship against NEC Red Rockets.

With both Madayag and Minowa closing this chapter of their volleyball careers, their next moves—whether a new international stint or a homecoming to the Philippines—remain highly anticipated. One thing is certain: wherever they go, their talent and passion will continue to shine.
