The 2nd Farmer’s Cup concluded successfully at the South Pacific Golf and Leisure Estate, drawing an enthusiastic crowd of golfers and supporters from across Mindanao, Cebu, and Manila.
Fueled by the generosity of major sponsors from the Swine and Hog Farm sector, the annual tournament highlighted both competition and camaraderie in the sport while supporting charitable causes.
Tournament Director Ramon Bien expressed gratitude for the strong turnout, saying, “We are elated by the attendance of our sponsors, friends, and golfers from Davao and neighboring areas for supporting this tournament. We are also blessed by the presence of Department of Agriculture Regional Director Macario ‘Bong’ Gonzaga, who has been very supportive of this endeavor.”
Proceeds from the event will be used for community initiatives, including livestock management programs and career orientation for students at Cotabato Foundation College of Science and Technology in Arakan, North Cotabato, according to Clarisse Villanueva, PHILSAN President for VisMin.
In competition, Ybrael Abergas showcased his skill with a two-over-par 74, securing the Overall Gross Champion title, while Timothy Co took home the Overall Net Championship with a Net 70 in the System 36 format tournament.
Class A Champions
Missionary golfer Peter Bollant carded a Gross 75, edging out Jessie Tan (76) by a stroke to claim the Class A Gross championship. Bobby Mamaril (70) topped the Class A Net division, narrowly defeating Cocoy Alimes (71).
Class B Winners
Apo mainstay Jonathan Suy (87) took the Class B Gross title, with Stephen Alegre (90) settling for runner-up. Meanwhile, Ayi Roca edged out Jeremiah Co (72) for the Class B Net championship, finishing with a Net 71.
Seniors Division
Edge Davao columnist Engr. Chito Malabanan played a steady round, carding an 8-over-par 80, including a single birdie, to secure the Seniors Gross championship over veteran Boy Tan (88). Rey Abear triumphed in the Seniors Net division via countback after tying with Pili Sison (Net 72).
Class C and D Champions
In Class C, Philip Ilagan (97) captured the Gross Champion title, while Bong Nagayo (74) secured the Net Championship. Darius Gregorio (98) and Eric Hernandez (75) finished as runners-up in their respective divisions.
In Class D, Ian Maningo (103) emerged as the Gross Champion, while Manny Lagat (77) won the Net Championship. Omar Salih (106) and Jay Elbinias (77) claimed runner-up honors.
Ladies Division
The women’s competition saw Roselyn Lee (93) claim the Ladies Gross Championship, while Beth Lindo (77) secured the Ladies Net title.
With 120 par busters participating, the 2nd Farmer’s Cup proved once again to be a highly anticipated event that blends competitive golf with community support.
