Kieffer Alas is taking his basketball talents to Australia before making the leap to the United States.
The reigning UAAP High School Boys’ Basketball MVP is set to compete in the NBL1 West with the Warwick Senators, a semi-professional club in Perth. His family confirmed to media that he will be flying to Australia this weekend to begin his stint.
Alas will spend the summer with the Senators before heading to the U.S. for his Grade 12 year, where he aims to further his basketball career.
At just 17, Alas has already proven himself as a standout player. During his Grade 11 season at De La Salle-Zobel, he posted impressive averages of 20.07 points, 11.14 rebounds, 4.93 assists, and 1.07 steals per game—earning him the league’s top individual honor.
While young, Alas won’t be the youngest player in the NBL1 West. That distinction belongs to 15-year-old Luke Paul of the Willetton Tigers.
The Warwick Senators are currently undefeated with a 6-0 record under head coach Andrew Cooper, who will also mentor Alas during his time in Australia.
The Alas family’s connection to the club came through coach Rob Beveridge, a close friend of Alex Compton and Eric Altamirano.
Following his tenure in Australia, Alas will relocate to the United States, where he is set to join an AAU team and enroll in a high school program. While he has yet to receive a Division I NCAA offer, the ultimate goal remains the same: securing an athletic scholarship and competing at the NCAA Division I level.
