Filipinas clinch Asian Cup spot with 1–0 win over Hong Kong

With the win, the Philippines joins hosts Australia, China, South Korea, Japan, and Bangladesh among the confirmed participants for next year’s continental championship.

Phnom Penh — July 5, 2025 The Philippine women’s national football team is through to the 2026 AFC Women’s Asian Cup after edging out Hong Kong, 1–0, on Saturday evening at the Olympic Stadium.

Chandler McDaniel struck early in the 4th minute, securing the decisive goal that sealed the Philippines’ unbeaten run in Group G. The Filipinas completed the qualifiers with three straight wins, totaling nine points and a clean sheet across all matches.

Hong Kong had a chance to equalize midway through the first half, but Philippine goalkeeper Olivia McDaniel denied Cheung Wai Ki’s strike in the 20th minute to maintain the lead.
The Filipinas generated several scoring opportunities to widen the gap, including a near-goal from Quinley Quezada in the 75th minute and another late attempt thwarted by Olivia McDaniel six minutes from time.

With the win, the Philippines joins hosts Australia, China, South Korea, Japan, and Bangladesh among the confirmed participants for next year’s continental championship. The tournament will also serve as the final qualification round for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.

This marks the Filipinas’ third consecutive appearance in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup, following their historic 2022 campaign that led to their first-ever World Cup berth.
