Adaza-Serrano duo wins Kickoff Pickleball title

Former junior tennis standouts from the City of Mati, Patti Adaza and Macy Serrano, captured the championship at the Kickoff Pickleball Tournament held at Pickletown in Davao City, taking home the top prize of ₱10,000.

Adaza and Serrano, who transitioned to pickleball as the sport continues to gain popularity among tennis players, displayed consistent teamwork and court awareness throughout the tournament. Their experience in competitive tennis was evident in their shot selection and strategic play.

“We’ve always loved the intensity of tennis, but pickleball brings a different kind of excitement,” said Adaza. “It’s fast-paced, tactical, and the community around it is growing quickly.”

Jessica Consad and Sayrahmae Bacasma finished second, earning ₱8,000, while Louise Andrea C. Ledesma and CaesarieLi Silvosa placed third and received ₱6,000.

Tournament organizer Mark Villafuerte noted the increasing interest in pickleball across Mindanao. “We’re seeing more tennis players making the switch, and events like this help build momentum. Pickletown is proud to host tournaments that elevate the sport in the region.”

The Kickoff Pickleball Tournament served as the opening event of the local pickleball calendar, drawing players and spectators from across Davao and neighboring provinces. Organizers plan to hold more competitions in the coming months to further promote the sport.
