Yulo gets another bronze at Junior Worlds

Filipino Karl Eldrew Yulo ended his campaign in the 3rd FIG Artistic Gymnastics Junior World Championships on Monday with another bronze medal at the Manila Marriott Hotel, Newport World Resorts in Pasay City.

Yulo scored 14.000 points to finish third behind Colombian Camilo Vera (14.533) and American Danila Leykin (14.233) in the horizontal bar.

He captured his first bronze in the floor exercise on Sunday.

“I’m so happy because all the hard work paid off, at least I still managed to win two bronze medals,” the 17-year-old younger brother of Paris Olympics double-gold medalist Carlos Edriel Yulo said.

“I want to thank all the people who supported me,” added Yulo, who also acknowledged his two coaches — Filipino Reynald Capelan and Japanese Munehiro Kugimiya — who helped him prepare for the tournament.

He previously won a silver medal in vault at the Asian Junior Championships in Jecheon, South Korea in June.

Meanwhile, Vera and Japanese Nao Ojima were declared co-champions in the parallel bars after scoring similar 13.866 points.

Chinese Lanbin Yang, the floor exercise gold medalist, was third with 13.600 points.

It was the second medal for Ojima, who grabbed the silver in the individual all-around.

In the vault event, international neutral athlete Arsenii Dukhno scored 14.333 points to pocket the gold medal, his second after dominating the individual all-around on Saturday.

British Sol Scott (14.066) won the silver medal while compatriot Evan McPhillips (13.950) settled for the bronze medal.

In the women’s division, Chinese Yina Xiang scored 14.133 points to win the gold medal in the beam event.

Japanese Yume Minamino (13.800) took the silver, her second medal after topping the individual all-around event.

American Caroline Moreau (13.600) bagged her second bronze medal, placing third in the uneven bars.

In the floor exercise, Japanese Misa Nishiyama scored 13.533 points to win the gold medal. She also got the bronze medal in the individual all-around.

Elena Colas (13.200) and Maiana Prat (13.166) of France secured the silver and bronze medals, respectively. Colas also won the silver medal in the individual all-around. (PNA)
