Bangkok — Two-time Olympian Eumir Felix Marcial came through when it mattered most, salvaging the Philippines’ boxing campaign with a gritty split-decision victory over Indonesia’s Maikhel Roberrd Muskita in the men’s -80kg light heavyweight final at the 2025 SEA Games.
Marcial set the tone early, edging the first round 3-2. Muskita responded in the second, using his height and reach to keep the Filipino at bay. But in the decisive third, Marcial dug deep, finding a crucial second wind and unleashing a flurry of punches that disrupted Muskita’s rhythm and sealed the win.
The triumph marks Marcial’s fifth SEA Games gold medal, adding to his collection from the welterweight division in 2015 and the light middleweight titles in 2017, 2019, and 2021.
His victory stood out as the lone golden highlight for the Philippine boxing squad, after teammates Aira Villegas, Jay Bryan Baricuatro, and Flint Jara all settled for silver against Thai opponents earlier in the day.
Marcial’s performance not only underscores his resilience and championship pedigree but also ensures the Philippines remains on the podium in one of its proudest sporting disciplines.
