Local pride soared as Davao-based teams Lanang Golf Club and Rancho Palos Verdes Golf and Country Club (RPVGCC) captured the Aviator and Sportswriter’s division titles, respectively, in a thrilling conclusion to the 77th PAL Interclub Golf Tournament.
Lanang Holds Off Late Surge to Secure Aviator Title
In a high-stakes showdown for the Aviator Division, Lanang Golf Club displayed remarkable resilience to stave off a late-game charge from Mimosa Plus. Entering the final round as the leader, Lanang faced an “on-fire” Mimosa squad that exploded for 123 points in a desperate bid for the top spot.
Lanang, however, refused to buckle under the pressure. The team carded a composed 121 points on the final day, effectively damping the fire of their rivals and sustaining a slim lead to finish with a winning total of 476 points. Mimosa Plus finished in second place with 471 points—a remarkable climb that saw them leapfrog Brittanika B, who took third place, by a solitary point.
Meanwhile, Rancho Palos Verdes turned the Sportswriter’s Division into a masterclass of home-court advantage. Delivering a wire-to-wire performance. RPVGCC led from the opening round and never looked back.
RPVGCC Boy Arriba’s 43 , Abe Dizon(40) and Joseph Ng’s 37 punctuated their dominance of their home turf with an imposing 120 point performance on the final day. RPVGCC held a massive 19 point cushion over their nearest competitor as the final
day starts and finished with plenty to totally annihilate the opposition with their 466 total. Sarangani Golf secured the runner-up position with a total of 450 points, while Dirabh Golf rounded out the podium in third place with 439 points.
