DAVAO CITY, Philippines – Leveraging their deep knowledge of the local greens, host teams from Davao City surged to the front of the pack as the 77th PAL Interclub golf tournament officially got underway at the Apo Golf and Country Club.
In the Men’s Regular Aviator division, Lanang Golf and Country Club flexed its collective muscle to seize the early lead with a total of 106 points. The charge was led by Mikey Dizon, who turned in a stellar 32 points. He was well-supported by Abu Mata (27), Danny Nagayo (26), and Bong Belen (21). Jocks Liu’s 14 points did not count toward the team total.
Not far behind, the host venue’s own Apo Golf Team B squad showed why they are favorites on this course. They registered the second-best score of the day with 103 points, fueled by a balanced performance from Fraz Pasquil(28),Leo Fusilero(27),Bobong Cabang(25) and Quentin Singsong (Chad Borja) 25 points
The leaderboard is even more crowded in the Sportswriters division. Davao City Golf FTB managed to secure a share of the early lead, tying with Paoay Golf at 80 points apiece after their date at the South Pacific Golf.
However, the competition remains fierce as Dole Kalsangi is currently breathing down their necks, sitting just one point back with a total of 79.
While tournament officials noted it is still “too early to tell” who will walk away with the hardware, the opening day made one thing clear: the Davao-based teams are successfully maximizing their home-field advantage against a formidable field of guest and foreign participants.
As the tournament progresses, all eyes will be on whether these local squads can maintain their momentum or if the visiting challengers can decode the challenging layouts of Davao’s premier courses.
