Filipina tennis star Alex Eala represented the Philippines on the global stage as she walked the red carpet at the Laureus World Sports Awards in Madrid, one of the most prestigious events in international sport.

Widely regarded as the “Oscars of Sports,” the Laureus Awards honour the world’s top athletes and the year’s most outstanding sporting achievements. Eala made a striking appearance in a Filipino‑inspired gown designed by her uncle, acclaimed fashion designer Rhett Eala.

This year’s major honours went to Carlos Alcaraz, who was named Sportsman of the Year, and Aryna Sabalenka, who received the Sportswoman of the Year award.

The ceremony was hosted by 24‑time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic and Olympic gold medallist Eileen Gu. Eala shared a light moment from the evening on social media, posting a selfie with both hosts.

The star‑studded event gathered some of the biggest names in global sport. Tennis standouts Alcaraz, Sabalenka, Djokovic, rising star Jannik Sinner, and Philippine Women’s Open champion Camila Osorio were among those in attendance.

Athletes from other disciplines also graced the ceremony, including football stars Toni Kroos and Lamine Yamal, golf major champion Rory McIlroy, Olympic winter champions Chloe Kim and Eileen Gu, and Paralympic swimmer Gabriel Araújo.

Adding to the night’s prestige were Laureus ambassadors and sporting legends such as Nadia Comăneci, Lindsey Vonn, Simone Biles, Shelly‑Ann Fraser‑Pryce, and football manager André Villas‑Boas.

Following her appearance at the awards, Eala is set to return to competition, with her opening‑round match at the Madrid Open scheduled for Wednesday.
