Fresh off his breakthrough gold in Antalya last month, rising Filipino star Eldrew Yulo continued his strong run on the international stage, qualifying for the floor exercise final at the FIG World Cup in Cairo on Friday.
The 18‑year‑old posted 13.900 (5.400 difficulty, 8.500 execution) to finish fifth in the qualification round, securing his third consecutive floor final since moving up to the senior ranks.
His teammate, John Ivan Cruz—the 2025 Southeast Asian Games floor champion—placed 21st out of 30 with 12.200.
Topping the field was Arsenii Dukhno of Russia, the reigning Junior World all‑around and vault champion, who scored 14.533. Dukhno and Yulo last faced off at the Junior Worlds in Manila in November 2025. Colombia’s Camilo Vera (14.133) and Russia’s Daniel Marinov (14.000) completed the top three.
The Filipino contingent returns on Saturday for Day 2 of qualifications.
Yulo is set to compete in vault, parallel bars, and horizontal bar, while Besana takes on horizontal bar and parallel bars. Cruz will aim for a stronger showing in the vault.
