DAVAO CITY — The heavens smiled on the South Pacific Golf and Leisure Estates on March 30, 2026, as the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) successfully staged its inaugural DSA Cup Golf Tournament. After two weeks of constant, heavy rainfall, the skies cleared just in time, blessing the venue with perfect golfing weather.
The excellent conditions set the stage for 100 enthusiastic golfers who filled up two shotgun tee-offs at 6:00 AM and 11:30 AM.From the registration tables to the pristine fairways, and finally to the lively fellowship night, the tournament was defined by an atmosphere of fun, camaraderie, and shared laughter.
The tournament officially opened with the ceremonial tee off led by PDP Laban national executive director Joseph “Joy” Encabo, Dept of Agriculture regional director Bong Gonzaga, Lady Pro golfer Yvonne Bisera, South Pacific golf’s Tommy Inigo an tournament director Enge. Chito Malabanan
True to the event’s spirit of celebration, nobody left empty-handed, as every single participant took home a bounty from the grand raffle draw. “ This tournament will be remembered for its raffle and fun” quipped Mon Bien,an avid golfer participant of the tournament.
While the tournament was a showcase of local golf talent, its heartbeat was deeply rooted in charity. The event was organized to raise crucial funds for the young cancer patients at the House of Hope.
“I welcome everyone and appreciate your support for this inaugural tournament of the DSA,” said Engr. Chito Malabanan, tournament director during his welcome address. “This is not about us golfers, but about these brave young children cancer patients at the House of Hope. At least we gave them a fighting chance by joining this tournament. It’s not about the low scores or the long queue at the registration, but rather providing tangible support to children who are battling the toughest rounds of their lives” he added.
On the competitive side, Engr. Jerson Lebosada stood tall among the field. Lebosada put on a golfing clinic to bag the coveted Lowest Gross Championship title, firing an impressive 3-over-par for 51 points. Meanwhile, rising young talent Kenzo Sia showcased his immense potential by capturing the Overall Net Championship with a stellar net 67 points.
