Filipina tennis standout Alexandra “Alex” Eala has been voted the WTA’s grass-court “Star of the Swing” after dominating an online fan poll on the organization’s official website.
Eala earned an overwhelming 89% of the votes, comfortably topping the poll ahead of Wimbledon and Berlin Open champion Linda Noskova (7%) and Bad Homburg champion and Wimbledon runner-up Karolina Muchova (3%).
Also nominated were Queen’s Club champion Donna Vekic, Wimbledon doubles champions Kristina Mladenovic and Guo Hanyu, three-time Eastbourne champion Madison Keys, Bad Homburg finalist and Wimbledon quarterfinalist Naomi Osaka, and Berlin finalist and Wimbledon quarterfinalist Jessica Pegula.
The recognition follows a breakthrough grass-court season for the 20-year-old Filipina. Eala claimed her second WTA 125 title at Birmingham, reached the semifinals of the Berlin Open, and made history by advancing to the fourth round of Wimbledon, the deepest singles run by a Filipina at the prestigious Grand Slam.
