Eala leaves Asian Games more motivated

Alexandra Eala said she leaves the Asian Games “more motivated” after settling for bronze instead of the gold medal she had hoped to win for the Philippines.

The 21-year-old world No. 18 lost to China’s Wang Xinyu in a three-set semifinal match. Wang went on to win the gold medal after defeating compatriot Zhang Shuai.

Eala, who skipped the China Open to represent the Philippines, said she had no regrets and was happy to compete for her country.

“No regrets. I left everything on the court,” Eala said.

She also acknowledged the pressure that comes with being one of the Philippines’ leading tennis players.

“I definitely do get overwhelmed sometimes,” she said, adding that she sees the attention as “a privilege” and is ready for the challenge.

Eala said competing at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics remains a dream. While Asian Games gold offers direct qualification, she noted that there are other ways to qualify.

“So, if anything, I leave here more motivated,” she said.
