AS the officialdom of Davao del Norte condoles with the Aquino family, Gov. Rodolfo del Rosario joined the Filipino people in paying tribute to former President Maria Corazon Aquino, who passed away August 1, 2009.
He said the nation mourns the loss of a great Filipino pride.
“We mourn the peaceful passing away of a global democratic icon. President Cory has brought the entire nation to tears. We have lost a mother, a leader, a moral pillar, and a shining light in times of national despair,” he told Capitol officials and employees during a recent convocation at the Bulwagan ng Lalawigan.
Del Rosario personally asked participants and visitors to pause and offer a minute of prayer for the first woman president in Asia.
During the 61st founding anniversary of the municipality of Kapalong, the governor urged the people to remember the legacy of President Aquino.
Mrs. Aquino, 76, had been fighting colon cancer at the Makati Medical Center.
The widow of the national hero, Senator Benigno Aquino Jr., will be remembered as an icon of democracy, having restored democratic institutions after the 1986 military-backed People Power revolt. [Noel Baguio]
