The provincial government of Davao del Norte has gained ground in its effort to provide homes and shelter security to the less fortunate members of society.
The government, assuming a greater role in addressing the shelter needs of the poor, is implementing the housing program of the San Miguel Urban Poor Homeowners Assciation, Inc. (SAMUPHAI) at purok Namnama, Cuambogan, Tagum City.
First district Rep. Arrel Olaño has provided P6.1 million from his countryside development fund (CDF) for the purchase of a 4.7-hectare parcel of land to benefit 343 members of SAMUPHAI.
In a recent convocation program at the Bulwagan ng Lalawigan, Olaño turned over a check coursed through the National Housing Authority to the provincial government. He was assisted by NHA area management officer Enrique Cruz, Jr.
Acting as a conduit of the fund, the province will pay the amount to the landowners and then collects mortgage repayments from the beneficiaries for repayment to the NHA.
The province, in close coordination with SAMUPHAI, will soon raffle off the subdivided lots to the beneficiaries.
Olaño told the beneficiaries to treasure their new settlement and never to sell the individual properties awarded to them by the government as a legacy to their offsprings.
The local housing program is the newest component of Gov. Del Rosario’s comprehensive RDR WHEELS impact agenda that is tackling the problem of homelessness in order “to preserve the integrity of every Dabaonon family within a decent home.”
