Del Rosario creates anti-hunger body

Davao del Norte households will no longer experience hunger and food shortages in the coming years. Such is the lofty vision of Governor Rodolfo del Rosario in signing Executive Order No. 011 that created the Provincial Anti-Hunger Task Force.
The goverrnor organized the anti-hunger task force to reduce incidence of hunger in Dabaonon households across the province.
The governor said this is in support of the Accelerated Hunger Mitigation Program (AHMP) of the Arroyo government in pursuit of the Philippine Millennium Development Goals.
He added that the landmark program of the president gives impetus to Davao del Norte’s development agenda on health and social services via the RDR Wheels, which serves as the framework of all component programs that meet the most basic, and the most immediate needs of the people.
In implementing its hunger mitigation measures, the local chief executive said the province will build on its highly-efficient delivery of basic nutrition services, being a consistent regional outstanding winner in nutrition (CROWN) awardee for several years now.
In pursuit of the anti-hunger program, Davao del Norte Police Deputy Commander Jessie Estrada has been conducting feeding programs among the poor far-flung communities of the province.
Last February 11, 2010, about 500 tribal people, mostly children, swarmed the hot rice porridge (lugaw) that Estrada’s composite team served in Sitio Natulingan in Barangay Palma Gil, at the boundary of Bukidnon.
After the feeding program, Estrada, together with Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer Felix Abangin, led the lumads into a tree-planting activity at the 1-hectare PENRO reservation.
