Winning attitude equals success of gov’t programs

A winning attitude is not only for sportsmen, as positive outlook can be one’s strength in facing many of life’s challenges, even in attaining the vision, mission and goals of the local government units.
Davao City councilor, Peter Laviña, said in his message to Davao del Norte  capitol officials, executives and employees during the Monday convocation at the Bulwagan ng Lalawigan that, just like in sports, winning attitude is crucial in pursuing the mission and goals of the provincial government.
However, he said, preparation is the most important element of winning attitude, whether one is gearing for athletic competitions or implementing policies plans and programs of the province.  
He cited as a perfect example Pinoy boxing legend and pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao, who knocks out anyone inside the ring because of his winning attitude and determination.
Laviña discourages one’s tendency to fight the easy game or find the easy way out of any challenge. The correct attitude is to confront our problems and adversaries squarely, he said.
Gov. Rodolfo del Rosario, in his response, urged provincial officials and employees to imbibe a winning attitude in the performance of their daily tasks and functions.  “Attitude is personal, and a winning attitude is a personal choice that each of us is called upon to have,” he said.  
While reiterating his strong commitment to the sports development program of the province, he explained why his administration decided to defer the proposed multi-million Davao del Norte Sports Complex in favor of the stimulus package designed to implement 338 projects in all the barangays of the province until things normalize,, referring to prices of construction materials that skyrocketed as a result of the global crisis two years ago.
The governor said he is not bent on following the original design of the project anymore. He is now keen on pursuing a more economic and functional model of the project “so that our youth can really have the facility to develop their skills in sports.”
During the convocation program, Del Rosario conferred sports recognition on Marbie Quitante of Tagum City for winning the bronze medal in the regu and hoop category of the sepak takraw competition during the 25th Southeast Asian Games in Laos last December 9-18, 2009, and to Henry Roger Lopez of Panabo City, who won gold in chess at the Asian Para Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
