“Absence makes the heart grow fonder”
A jubilant air embraced Governor Rodolfo P. del Rosario at the Bulwagan ng Lalawigan for the launching of Capitolympics 2010 last September 6, 2010. The sports euphoria was overshadowed by the warm presence of the governor who has been away for two weeks, visiting Congressman Anthony G. del Rosario in Palo Alto, California, USA.
“This is the first time that I spent my birthday away from home,” said the governor, hinting a subdued emotion.
But the nostalgic crowd let out a joyful birthday song, to his delight. Since he became governor, September 1st has always been a major institutional celebration for Capitol employees in honor of the governor’s natal day.
As a welcome treat, the governor was made the central figure among employee-athletes in full sports attire. In his speech for the formal opening of the sportsfest, the governor lauded the capitol employees for their continued dedication in public service:
“While some of our co-workers have given up the race by leaving the government sector in favor of some greener pastures, most of us prefer to remain in the race track and persevere in the race towards providing better services for our constituents.”
In support to the 110th Civil Service Month celebration, the governor rallied his fellow government workers to give life to the symbolic display of tenacity and strength by calling on their enthusiasm in their daily works, believing that “in this great marathon towards public service excellence, every runner is counted a winner.”
The governor did not also fail to convey his warmest thanks to Vice Governor Victorio “Baby” Suaybaguio, Jr., for the enormous assistance as Acting Governor while he is away.
The Friday sportsfest will run from September to December 2010.
