Groups of Kapalong farmers receive livelihood initiative

The Mindanao Rural Development Program under the Community Fund for Agricultural Development (MRDP-CFAD) of the Department of Agriculture has made possible the empowerment of local farmers in the municipality of Kapalong to further improve their income and eventually raise their standard of living.
The Mamacao Rural Livelihood Association (MARULA), the Semong Farmer’s Association (SFA), Katipunan Farmers’ Livelihood Association (KAFLA), and the Capungagan Farmers’ Association (CFA), received a P250,000 check each during the recent launching and ceremonial turn-over of the MRDP-CFAD program implementation.
The four groups, which are recognized people’s organizations (POs) in that town, were represented by their respective presidents and barangay captains.
The amounts were part of the P2.5 million infrastructure and livelihood projects granted to the local government for the identified PO’s in Kapalong.
The livelihood projects include the backyard goat raising in Semong and Capungagan, broiler production in Katipunan, and cassava production in Mamacao.
“The remaining P1.5M which has not been released yet is intended for Sua-on and Florida Farmers’ Association livelihood program, also at P250,000 each, while the remaining one million pesos is for the installation of a potable water system for Mamacao Farmers’ Association and Katipunan-Semong Irrigators’ Service Association,” said Gerlie H. Quezon, MRDP municipal facilitator.
Prior to the turnover, the beneficiaries were exposed to different trainings that equipped them with technical information and skills necessary for the implementation of the program.
“Nalipay dyod ko uban sa akong mga kaubang beneficiaries kay bisan dugay na namong hulat ani natuman ra dyod. Ug kami mapasalamaton kay Mayor Timbol sa iyang paningkamot nga matuman ang among dugay na nga gihulat,” said Virgie Terig, president of Capungagan Farmers’ Association.
Mayor Edgardo Timbol thanked the Department of Agriculture thru the regional, provincial and municipal facilitators of the MRDP-CFAD for the realization of the program.
He expressed optimism that Semong and Katipunan would be Kapalong’s source of quality goat’s meat along with the cassava and broiler production of Mamacao and Katipunan.
