Dabaonon indigents need not worry because the popular People’s Day will return early next year.
Governor Rodolfo del Rosario said the People’s Day, a breakthrough one-stop-shop public service station held every Monday at the Bulwagan ng Lalawigan, Tagum City will be back by the New Year or in February 2011.
Established by the governor in January 2008, thousands of constituents, mainly made up of indigents, have benefited from the program which was designed to make the provincial government more accessible and responsive to the needs of the people.
Along with other executives of the province, Del Rosario personally makes himself available to ordinary people who seek an audience with him during the activity.
However, the popular program took a break last February when the province complied with the provisions of the Comelec, following the conduct of the May 10 national and local elections.
It was supposed to return after the elections, but the governor decided to further freeze the program after his son, first district Rep. Anthony del Rosario, again fell ill and had to seek medical treatment at the Stanford Hospital in California, USA.
“The fact that my son got sick, siguro kailangan na man talaga ni Anthony ang attention ko,” he said.
The Governor asked his constituents to understand the situation since he had to go to the US occasionally in order to join AGR during his six-month treatment in the U.S.
“I have been serving our province, and our country for that matter, for more than 30 years and I hope the people of Davao del Norte understand that my son really needs me this time,” the doting father said.
The doctors declared AGR fully cured from cancer after undergoing chemotherapy and stem cell transplant.
But, he is not allowed to return home just yet as his doctors insist that he stay for a while longer in order to fully recover from his treatment procedure, which temporarily compromised his immunity from diseases.
He is optimistic that the representative will be able to return home by next February after his medical record shoed that his recovery from the series of treatments was always way ahead of time.
“Pagbalik ni AGR ibabalik natin ang People’s Day,” he promised.
The governor said he will leave for the U.S. before Christmas to celebrate the Yuletide with his son and be back after New Year’s day.
