The National Nutrition Council NNC-11 cited Compostela Valley Province as the Nutrition Program champion with Governor Arturo T. Uy receiving the trophy.
After its successful performance in the first series, the provincial government launched the second round of the Adopt-A-Child Program last June 13 at the provincial capitol building with barangays Banagbanag and New Visayas of Montevista as the recipient areas.
Gracing the event was Maria Teresa L. Ungson, the regional nutrition program coordinator of NNC-11 and Edge Davao columnist.
“It’s not just a program. It goes deeper by giving life to those children,” she saidof the program. “It is very commendable and unique. People in the offices are involved even if they are not Nutritionists,” Ungson said.
She handed the trophy to Governor Uy and the Plaque of Appreciation from NNC-11 to ComVal for “best practice of a dynamic and innovative nutrition program.”
Adopt-A-Child is a nutrition program initiated by the governor who is chairman of the Provincial Nutrition Council (PNC). As oart of the program, respective Capitol offices adopt malnourished children identified by the provincial nutrition office with the employees facilitating a 120-day food supplemental feeding starting June to October of this year. The program also serves as an entry point for the other services and interventions that the provincial government extends to the family and the community as a whole.
Facilitated by the office of provincial nutrition action officer (PNAO) Raymundo J. Pajarito, twenty five (25) malnourished children will be in the second batch of the program, 15 from Brgy. Banagbanag and 10 from Brgy. New Visayas. The first batch numbered 26 adopted children. [Grace Almedilla, IDS- ComVal]
