Pantukan Gold and Copper project (PGC) (The partnership of NADECOR and St. Augustine Gold and Copper Ltd.) recently partnered with several concerned groups from the municipality of Pantukan to provide much needed, health care services for the residents of sitios Gumayan Gamay, Gumayan Dako, Soysoy, Pereyras, and Tiogdan.
Among those who joined PGC personnel in conducting the program (some of whom can be seen in the photos) were volunteer doctors, nurses, representatives from barangay and municipal health offices, Gumayan Small-Scale Miners Association, Lumanggang Small-Scale Miners Association, Barangay Council of Kingking, and the Mansaka Tribal Association.
Clyde Gillespie of PGCP said the activity’s success was due largely to the overwhelming support of the community which helped identify the specific medical needs of the people. The outreach was able to serve more than 150 patients, including 50 infants and small children who were immunized against chronic diseases.
The PGCP is studying the feasibility of mining the Kingking gold and copper deposit in Compostela Valley Province. The medical outreach is part of a bigger community development program being undertaken by the PGCP, which also includes conducting extensive environmental research, community consultations, exploratory drillings and other related studies.
