With the approval of the 2012 Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management (PDRRM) Plan, the province strengthens its disaster mitigating measures.
Disaster preparedness activities are conducted regularly to enhance the capabilities of disaster managers and frontliners who will spearhead the emergency response, relief operation and rescue during calamities.
Recently, a rigid five-day training on water search and rescue was conducted at Mabini Marine Center, Mampising, Tagnanan, Mabini, with 45 participants coming from the municipalities of Monkayo, Montevista, Mawab, Maco and including the members of the organized Compostela Valley emergency response team.
Other mitigation programs include continuing information, education and advocacy campaign to the community and the rehabilitation and repair of horizontal infrastructures.
A province-wide search for best prepared municipal and barangay disaster risk reduction council is also set. DILG provincial director Liboria Diana chairs the team who shall evaluate the readiness of the disaster risk reduction councils in the municipal and barangay levels.
Governor Arturo T. Uy is also thankful to the national government for allowing the local government units to use 70 percent of the local disaster funds (calamity fund) so that local government units can best prepare by using it for their predisaster programs and projects.
Meanwhile, a forum on “Building Alliance for Disaster Preparedness” will be held on August 10 at Camp Manuel T. Yan Eco-Military Camp in Tuburan, Mawab, to be participated in by 11 municipal information officers and concerned national line agencies in the province.
The event is a joint undertaking of the Association of Community Development Information Officers of Compostela Valley and the Philippine Information Agency-11. It is aimed at raising awareness on the geohazards in the province and establishing information management system during disaster occurrences.
