On its second day of drug testing in the barangays, the City of Mati LGU through its City Anti-Drug Abuse Council conducted a Drug Free Workplace Campaign at Brgy. Sainz on Thursday, November 7. The campaign started Wednesday in Barangay Matiao where, among the 25 resident-surrenderers, one tested positive for illegal drugs while none tested positive from the 150 barangay functionaries.
Today, in Barangay Sainz, there were 132 functionaries including barangay officials and 35 resident-surrenderers who underwent drug testing.
Attending the event were City Anti-Drug Abuse Council Focal Person Jose Moring, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Representative, Philippine National Police Representative, Barangay Captain Edgar T. Valera, Barangay Sainz Council, City Anti-Drug Abuse Council Staff and Brgy. Sainz functionaries and surrenderers. “Thank you for your presence, for giving time to participate on this activity.
Let us work together to make our barangay a drug free barangay. I would like also to thanked City Anti-Drug Abuse Council, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, Philippine National Police, City Health Office and of course Mayor Michelle Rabat for the support and for making this activity possible,” said Barangay Captain Edgar T. Valera. According to the City Anti-Drug Abuse Council the said activity is in implementation of the Dangerous Drug Board Resolution No. 13 or the “Establishment and Institutionalization of Drug Free Workplace”.
This is also the approach to make a certain barangay a drug cleared barangay. The drug testing campaign in the workplace is part of the City of Mati commitmient in reducing drug demand and criminality in the community. The activity was spareheaded by the City Anti-Drug Abuse Council in partnership with Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, Philippine National Police, City Health Office and Barangay Sainz Council.
Next stop is barangays Dahican and Central. Only four out of the 26 barangays in the City of Mati remains undeclared as drug-free barangay by the authorities. (CIO MATI)
