As long as they come in peace, members of the New People’s Army (NPA) are welcome to enjoy the activities during the Kadayawan Festival, said Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio.
She said the festival should not exclude people who want to join the locals.
“The call for peace is always there in Kadayawan. All peace-loving people should be welcome,” she said in a media interview last August 6.
The mayor also invited the rebels to surrender.
“If they decide to surrender during the Kadayawan festival, that would be very welcome,” she said.
Despite the invitation to the rebels, the mayor said the police will not be prevented from arresting those with warrants of arrest to their name.
“Serving warrants of arrest is part of the duty of the police. It’s a legal process,” she added. [Jade C. Zaldivar]
