Sen. Enrile confirms move to unseat him

Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile confirmed on Wednesday a move to unseat him on the ground that some of his colleagues are no longer happy with his leadership.
”I got the information from a reliable source but I will not discuss that,” Enrile said in a Senate media interview after the Senate inquiry on rice smuggling.
Enrile said some of the members of the Senate are unhappy “because I rebuke them.”
””There are always people who are unhappy with the leadership of anybody,” the 89-year-old veteran lawmaker added.
Enrile, however, clarified that he would be happy to give the Senate leadership to any interested senator.
”I would be thankful if somebody would take my place because it’s a difficult job because I have no more time to go around,” Enrile said.
Meanwhile, Senator Panfilo Lacson said the move to oust Enrile will not prosper now that it is already known to all senators.
”A Senate coup is like military coup. If it will be exposed, the element of surprise will banish, and almost always, it will fail,” Lacson said.
Lacson believed that controversial Reproductive Health bill has nothing to do with oust move against Enrile. Enrile opposed the measure.
”The RH bill is not a big issue in Malacanang. We all know that. You will really feel if Malacanang is interested because they would at least talk to a senator. But this time, as far as RH bill, none from the government talked to the senators,” Lacson said.
Lacson said he would never support any move to unseat Enrile.
”I will not join because I helped install SP Enrile in the last Congress. Why would I participate in a plot to oust him? That’s out of character,” Lacson said. [PNA]
