Ad Congress 2013 bid Sara welcomes DOT’s support

Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio welcomed the endorsement by Tourism Secretary Ramon Jimenez, Jr. of Davao City’s bid to host the 23rd Advertising Congress in 2013.
She said it would br more significant for the city to be the venue of the Ad Congress due to the hype it brings as area destination for conventions and meetings in the country.
“We will just hope that we will get to host the Ad Congress next year,” Duterte-Carpio said, adding that the event would help boost the local economy.
Jimenez, in his letter to Frederick Alegre, chair of the Advertising Board of the Philippines, said that Davao City is an ideal venue for the event because of its clean, safe and being a cosmopolitan urban community. Moreover, the city is an ideal convention destination all-year round because it is a typhoon-free area.
Jimenez said the city’s accommodation establishments can cater to at least 7,000 travelers with its deluxe, first class and boutique hotels.
He said the city has a convention center that can accommodate 3,000 to 4,000 people.
“In a recent study of the Asian Institute of Management, Davao City ranked as the most competitive metro city in the Philippines, which makes it one of the country’s top urban centers.  The 2007 survey of the Foreign Direct Investment Magazine of the Finance Times of London declared that Davao City is one of the top ten cities of the future.  It also ranks as the 5th in Asia with the best human resources,” Jimenez said.
Jimenez underscored that the city is a place where culture, nature and adventure converge and is home to the country’s national symbols like the Philippine Eagle, and Mt. Apo, the country’s highest peak.  [PIA 11/Joey Sem G. Dalumpines]
