Newly-promoted Brig. Gen. Lysander Suerte is set to relinquish his post Wednesday morning as commander of the 1003rd Infantry Brigade under the 10th Infantry Division to Colonel Buenaventura Pascual in a turn-over ceremony at the brigade headquarters in Barangay Nueva Visayas, Sto. Tomas town in Davao Del Norte.
Suerte, who was brigade chief for almost two years, will be assigned as assistant division commander of the 3rd Infantry Division (ID) based in Panay, Iloilo.
He was among the 23 senior military officers who were promoted last week. Among them were 10th ID commander Ariel Bernardo from Brigadier General to Major General and 1001st Brigade commander Col. Roberto Domines Jr. to Brigadier General.
Suerte was instrumental in the successful implementation of the Peace and Development Outreach Program (PDOP) in various barangays under the brigade’s area of responsibility.
Buenaventura was formerly assigned with Task Force Zamboanga under the 1st Infantry Division. He was replaced by his classmate in the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Class 1984 Col. Glenn Macasero, who came from the 1001st IB.
During the turn-over of command last Friday in Zamboanga, 1st ID commander Maj. Gen. Reiner Cruz lauded Pascual for the numerous accomplishments he made during his stint as the TFZ commander.
“I am proud of having Col. Pascual as one of the best performing officers in my division, the Army is so proud of him, congratulations on his promotion,” Cruz said.
Pascual served as the task force commander since October 2010. He is known for leading TFZ in consonance to its mission in support to Zamboanga City Police Office in securing the city against terrorism.
