The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in the Davao region has a completion percentage of 84.84 as of September on this year’s P3.2-billion infrastructure projects.
This is according to data provided by DPWH 11 spokesperson Dennis Flores.
Flores said they are optimistic to complete in the three months left the 102 DPWH-initiated projects distributed among eight district engineering offices (DEOs) and the regional office, or a 100 percent completion rate.
“Our aim is to maintain our consistent record to become the top performing DPWH regional office in the country and we believe that we can achieve it,” Flores said, adding that the region was a top performer according to last year’s report.
Four DEOs – Compostela Valley DEO, Davao City Sub-DEO, Davao del Sur 2ndDEO and Davao Oriental 2nd DEO – have achieved 100% completion of their projects while 25 others are still ongoing projects while 77 projects are already done.
Last month, the rehabilitation of two busy streets in Davao City – R. Castillo Street and Quezon Boulevard – were completed as per time table.
DPWH 11 was recently chosen as one of two pilot regions, the other being the National Capital Region, for certification by the International Standardization Organization (ISO).
It takes six to ten months before an applicant gets the ISO certification, depending on compliance with the requirements.
DPWH 11 regional director Mariano Alquiza said, “Aspiring for an ISO 9001-2008 is going to be a great challenge for all of us since we will all have to undergo a series of paradigm shifts/”
The ISO 9001:2008 is the International Standard for Quality Management Systems and any organization can benefit from implementing this certification as its requirements are underpinned by eight management principles: customer focused organization; leadership; the involvement of people; ensuring a process approach; a systematic approach to management; a factual approach to decision making; mutually beneficial supplier relations; and continuous improvement.
